Service Engineering
While converged networks allow a greater use of physical resources, they also introduce a layer of complexity which
can be dicult to manage. Ridgeline abstracts the complexity of multiple protocols running on the same physical
resources and empowers the operator to engineer the network for greater link eciency.
Ridgelineprovidesnetworkoperatorstheabilitytoeasily
create,visualize,andmanagetransporttechnologiessuchas
ProviderBridging(PB)andProviderBackboneBridging(PBB).
NetworkoperatorscanalsomoreeasilycreateVLANsand
EAPSresiliencydomains.Thesecapabilitiesalongwithutiliza-
tionstatisticsallownetworkoperatorstomorequicklydeter-
mineifadditionalsubscribersand/orservicescanbeadded
ontothenetworkwithoutimpactingexistingservices.
Ridgelineprovidescompleteend-to-endworkowstoimport
andreconcileexistingE-LineandE-LAN-basedcustomer
servicesinthenetwork.Theworkowshelpnetworkopera-
torstotakecontrolofexistingservicesinthenetworkandgain
visibilityintocustomerservicesandtheunderlyingtransport.
Onceimportedandreconciled,theservicescanbemodied
andvisualized.
TheServiceAdvisorFeaturePackrequirestheRidgelinebase
softwareproduct.Formoredetailsonthebasesoftwareprod-
uct,pleaserefertotheRidgelineproductdatasheet.
Aserviceprovider’sprotabilitylargelydependsonhowmany
serviceinstancescanbesupportedonagiveninfrastructure
withoutcompromisingQualityofService.
Moreservicescanbeaddedontothenetworkbyincreas-
ingeciencythroughintelligentandproperuseofnetwork
resources.However,gainingdetailedvisibilityintothenetwork
usingCLImethodsinaneorttomanageandachieveopti-
mumnetworkutilizationcanbeaverycomplicatedandtime-
consumingprocess.
Toeasethischallenge,Ridgelineprovidessimpliedservice
engineeringcapabilities.
Powerfulnetworkdiscoveryandvisualizationprovideoperators
easieraccesstodetailednetworkusageinformationsuchas
bandwidth,link,orserviceutilizationstatisticsaswellastrac
patterns.Basedonthisinformation,networkoperatorscan
quicklyndoptimumtracroutesandmakethemostofband-
widthandlinkcapacitiestoavoidtraccongestionthatmay
otherwiseimpacttime-criticalservices.Onceoptimumpaths
arediscovered,re-routesaremoreeasilyestablishedusing
simplepointandclick.
